She really hadn't asked much about finances nor had I. I think simple observation was in place. I am clearly am in better financial condition, but have had years to get there. Really no mystery in it.

It was her idea to move in here. I wasn't against it until she felt the need to "run the financial show."

The only mystery to me is how bad of shape she might be in, but it really doesn't matter now. I'm moving on.

I'm off to the gym. "Weight training" therapy is my medicine.

Which car are you driving to the gym?

"look, it's taken me years to recover from the divorce and now that I'm financially stable, we can spend the time to get your credit built, and your own financial platform in place so that you can know exactly what you have. The best way to achieve that is to keep things separate and grow individually until we are not dependent on each other financially which we aren't there yet."

Given that you're 20 years older and will likely die first, it just isn't safe for her to be dependent on you financially anyway. You die, your money goes to your kids and if she's not prepared then she's destitute.

You have your answers already. I just want to say when you break up, please tell her the two financial mistakes you pointed out. Criticism goes down really well with the females!

If for some reason that doesn't work, and she seems to be freaking out, then a couple sure-fire replies are "settle down" and "you're overreacting."
