Iphone?

Android?

I had an ipod a few years ago, wasn't all that impressed. An individual's preference for apple or not apple stuff seems to be similar to religious preference - usually determined by how you were raised.

I use google stuff. Works for me and never saw a reason to use an apple product much, even before smart phones. Windows was kinda lame, has issues, but Android is fantastic, and so an alternative to the mainstream is even less justified, seems to me, in the 'smartphone era'.

But someone close to me has an iphone and loves it, so when I had the option I got myself an iphone 7.

I used to be like picking sides. Like I am a Nintendo lover. I hated Sega. Playstation even worse. Then I realized, wait a hot minute... I can love both... so I bought a Dreamcast and I loved Sonic. And Gran Turismo on the Playstation was amazing. I still would buy a Nintendo for Mario if I had to pick only one, but the cool thing about life is you never have to choose only one side.

That idea itself - anything that forces you to choose a 'side' and reject the other 'side' - is inherently phukd up.

So anyway, I have an iphone 7 and use it every day for imessaging my soulmate. For that, I love it. Itunes is very convenient, again though mostly for sharing music with my soulmate, which is something we connect strongly with.

But other than that, the iphone is disappointing, kind of glitchy, reminds me of windows '95 or something from a desktop that had 8MB of RAM. I can't believe I can't rearrange even the home screen in a way that is effective to me. Screen lackluster, colors tepid. Apps disappointing in general, and not more reliable than open-source of Android.

I have had every new Samsung phone since the Galaxy S4 mini. I got an S8 when it came out in April. It is gorgeous. It has flaws. But it is definitely more useful, graceful and elegant, productive and overall just better than the Iphone7. So were the Samsung S7 and S6 and S5 that I had before the iphone 7.

What do you think?

With an Android, there are sooo many vendors, while that may pose a problem to others, I don't mind. Apple is just apple.
I had a iPhone 4, then switched to Android. Now I'm on a pixel. Haven't looked back.

I've seen ads for the pixel and I want one.

Samsung make beautiful screens. I think they make them... my tv is samsung and I love it. And apple is going to source their screens from Samsung for upcoming devices, I read, which is ironic and funny for the apple lovers, imo.

I haven't seen an Iphone 8 but the Galaxy S8 is sooooo much better than the Iphone 7 it is ridiculous how far 'behind' the iphone is.

So I figure matching the software to hardware produced by the same company would be cool.

But I get my phones from Sprint and I break them regularly by dropping them and stuff, and I don't know if a Pixel is available the way an iphone or a Samsung is... Like, I don't buy phones cash, I lease them. So is either Samsung or Iphone as far as I know, with the plans I have.

But are they cool? the pixel?

Blackberry
Galaxy 2,3,5. Good phones.

D had a apple 5c. I didn't like it at all.

Now using a cheap ZTE. Good specs, but a little glitchy, which in some respects has been a plus.

Android all the way.

camera over all, good screen, email. Whatever ticks those boxes is my preference. I have found a style that lasts me years and I see no need to change, but I prefer monitor over phone screen. Working from home, easy to do.

There's no doubt that the original iPhone was in a class of it's own, so I had one a decade ago. Android ever since. Samsung, Hawiai, htc, lg, whatever works for me.

Now, when I need a new phone, I try to get the largest google phones, 0% apr financed through the google store, on googles Project Fi cell service at $20/mo + data (+ $23/mo for the phone for 2yr). There's no bloatware and Android updates regularly. My older 6P just updated to oreo.

Also check out YouTube TV for streaming tv with an unlimited cloud dvr. It's free the first mo and you get a free Chromecast the second month. Somewhat on topic, google charges $35/mo if you sign up through the google play store and they charge $39.99/mo if you sign up through the Apple store. I guess they figure Apple people like to pay more.

On another note, Costco has the Samsung tab a 10.1" tablet on sale for $169 starting Nov 17th. It's a steal.

I'm an iPhone guy. I'm not really into tech. I like stuff that just works. I had an android phone during the divorce and the viruses I got on that thing were nuts (porn). I realize the android platform is far better in nearly every aspect, is cheaper for equal technology, etc.... But my first smartphone was an iPhone and the user interface is different between android and Apple. My divorce phone was a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime which was a free phone through Cricket. I realize it wasn't a good phone but I have too much music/videos/photos on my Apple phone so I'm locked in.

Hopefully my choice isn't the Betamax of the phone world.

The question is how much conflict you can control, negate, or avoid.

Heeh.. betamax, I had one of those growing up.
And about the porn, what ever media porn is most popular, is usually the tech that ends up dictating the market..

iPhone here but not religious about it. I have tried switching to Android on 3 separate occasions but switched back within 1-3 months. Ironically stbx is an iPhone snob and she thought the Android devices looked cheap and uncool. So after the separation, I bought me a Note 5! But I hated the battery life on that thing. A week into the switch I realized that I was planning my day around charging the phone. With an iPhone [now 7] I never have to look at the battery level until the end of the day. Full overnight charge pretty much works for me every day.

I hate reading on the iPhone though. I had a 7" Nook many years ago, then switched to a 10" iPad. But then I found the iPad to be too large for reading in bed so I sold it after not using it for many months. Today I ordered a Kindle HD 8 in the hopes of reading more books and checking this forum. Maybe I'll order a BT keyboard to type out a few replies too. Should be a good setup for checking news, email etc. We'll see...
