I think it's that they believe that all politicians are corrupt and unethical and that most hide it under a "good guy" persona.

The appeal of Trump is that, it is right out there in the open and it is so disgusting that there couldnt possibly be any worse hidden.

And since politics is dirty and politicians are corrupt and unethical, theyd rather have a slimy guy fighting dirty for the stuff their side wants.

That's my read anyway.

Part of that too is the ruse that he's a "business man."

No "business man" would hire such incompetents to run major departments in a company (DeVos, Sessions, and Perry for feck's sake). It takes a special kind of "business man" to run a casino into the ground (or an oil company, as did a previous incompetent "business man" in the WH). Sidebar, look at the spin they're putting on the leaked 1040: talk about "facts through a keyhole."

Fact is, governments are not like businesses and can't be run like them. Another fact is that CEOs are mostly politicians in their roles.

The russian thing is stinking more and more each week. Oligarchs, planes, and yachts. The rot is being exposed.

When coal miners WTFU they will see that no president can revive a dying industry (he'll do everything he can to keep that lie going for four years). When rural supporters find out that the reason they have only one health care choice is because that's what their beloved "free market" chooses, and without government support there might well be zero, they'll be in for a rude awakening.

I think trump got it because he seems the opposite of Obama.

Obama was a polarizing president and it seems people either loved him or hated him--I can't think of a single person who thought he was "ok" or was indifferent about him.

I agree some people voted party lines and some voted on a certain issue, but those are going to be the "stable" voters and they are present on both sides. Some people may always vote anti-abortion. Some may always vote pro-gay rights or whatever the hot topics are at the time.

I think the swing was thone that disapproved of obama.

If Obama was on the ticket he would still be president.

I'm one of those midway people.

I don't think you can accuse Obama of being maliciously or even assertively polarizing. He pissed me off to no end for the first few years bending over backward to get republicans to do *anything.*

It's fair to say that people polarized around him, but he didn't start being partisan until he had exhausted his patience with the do-nothing congress. By that point, it was almost refreshing to see him poke the eyes of idiots.

And now that trump has normalized white nationalism, the bigots are crawling out of the woodwork, thus exposing the truth of the "polarization" as latent racism. Must be comforting for republicans that their main news sources and mouthpieces for the president are #Whitebart and the National Enquirer.

Y3s he would. Usually it's hard to get a president out once he is in office. I believe that was part of why they changed it so a president can only serve 2 terms.

Wasn't George W bush one of the lowest rated presidents in history? And he served 2 terms?

I did not mean to imply that he intentionally polarized anyone. Just like you said: people polarized around him

Um, yeah, I've felt this viscerally over the past couple years. I would amend "incapable" to read "unable to consistently tell" ... I'm sure in the myriad versions of [fill in the blank] story there is one that is truthful, but I defy even her to identify which one it is. It's a moving target with most issues. A new excuse or reason for everything under the sun.

Hillary helped Trump more than any Russian could ever do by mocking prospective Trump voters instead of courting them.
She basically scolded voters to vote for Trump. She was so inept that she failed to defeat the worst candidate ever to run for president.

But no one cares about how she influenced the election so let's investigate Russians.
