It's really not hard to figure out. Cities attract more people and tend to be blue pockets in a sea of rural red. More crime and more cops correlate to larger populations and larger numbers of police:civilian interaction. To leap to the causal connection based on political party is par for the course.

When Rudy Giuliani became mayor of New York, crime rates went down dramatically. Conservative principles in a big city and crime goes down. New York now in the capable hands of Democrats and the crime is up. Crime in Chicago under Rahm Emanuel is way up too. The party in charge sets the tone for the environment in which perpetrators act.

"Crime rates" is an easily manipulated term which has been well documented.

But yeah, the mayor changed the behavior of all those criminals.

That's weird, crime rates began to drop in NYC in 1991, three years before Mayor Giuliani took office. I have NO DOUBT that Rudy took credit for that preexisting trend though.

And crime is naturally tied more to the party in charge than any other factor, like a crushed economy and sky high unemployment.

It makes perfect sense, really.

For those who do not yet know, crime stats are a political number and not a real number .They are manipulated easily and have no objective meaning.

I completely disagree.

Crime and poverty are related. Crime and lack of education are related. Crime and population density are related. You are telling us that there is more of a correlation between crime and political party than any other factor?

Much of the crime found in "crime stats" is based upon where crime is looked for.

Start a stop and frisk policy in well to do neighborhoods and crime will go up in those neighborhoods, because those people carry drugs in their pockets too. Driving a golf cart across a golf course while inebriated is just as illegal as riding a bike while inebriated in an urban environment. It shouldnt be difficult to guess which person has a far greater chance of getting arrested.
