Condonation.

Moving on, since this whole spying thing doesn't matter . . .

1. Who do you have contact with that has contact with the mother (besides the children)?
2. Do you use any form of social media; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, lalala . . . ?
3. How do you communicate with the mother - in person, phone, text, email?

Q: Whose idea was that??

As a "good faith gesture," did she give you access to her stuff as well??

The obvious question at this point is: what steps have you taken to protect your privacy going forward?

Here are some recommended actions, in a very particular order:

  • Make sure your home computer and/or laptop computer are logged out of all of your accounts.
  • Completely wipe the cache and all cookies from your home computer and/or laptop
  • Borrow a laptop computer from a trustworthy friend, take it to a nearby McDonalds or Starbucks and change all of your email, social media, etc. passwords. Never make this ridiculous "give her all of your passwords" mistake again. If you have to negotiate trust, you've already lost it.
  • Upgrade your phone to a new phone. Lock it down with a new password.
  • Either completely wipe or completely replace your laptop computer.
  • Stop using your home network, except for innocuous things that you wouldn't mind seeing in court. Route all other traffic over a WiFi hotspot from your new locked-down phone.
  • Is your car equipped with OnStar or something similar? Remember to change that password too.
  • Do you use a fitness tracker? If so, change the password on that account too (and any/all other such online accounts -- many folks forget about these types of things). A large number of the fitness apps track your geographic location while working out.

Another thing you can do to fool her internet tracking is to use a VPN. I run ALL of my home traffic from my computer over a VPN for privacy purposes. Look for one that gives you:

1) Out of country IP address
2) No logs kept
3) Secure connection over OpenVpn or some other trusted VPN service.

All her tracking will see is constant, encrypted packets to the IP of your VPN.

Providing her access to provide transparency is one thing ... I am not sure a judge would agree that that gives her blanket authority to install spy software. I bet your attorney could argue to get a lot or all of that thrown out.

For example, after separation she didn't even have sole occupancy of the house, legally - I stayed away by choice since she was nuts. I had the ability, had I wanted to, to sit out in the street, log into the router, and enable logging and I could have periodically seen every web site she visited. However, at least IMO just having the password didn't give me the right to spy.

Highly suggest Private Internet Access as a VPN provider.

Regarding VPN-

I just tried to set up my laptop and it says that my Windows 10 automatically comes with VPN and gives me the option to add another.

Sound accurate?

If you want a VPN for privacy then do not use a big corporation that tracks you like Microsoft.

Microsoft's VPN would be more for securely accessing a remote network.
